Ironman Arizona - winning my slot for Kona 2023
This was easily the craziest race I've ever had, not because of the race but because of what went on prior to the race - and it kind of continued a bit during the race. THE SLOT First, how I ended up at this race. When Ironman announced back in July 2022 that they would add 100 Women For Tri slots to certain races, I started looking. Women For Tri is a foundation by Ironman and its goal is to support women for doing triathlons. I don't think most men realize how much harder it is for a woman to...
A 5th place that I'm very happy with - World Triathlon World Championship
There were talks about the World Triathlon Long-Course World Championship being organized in Hungary for 2022 but they never got the financial support from the government that they were hoping for. I was definitely going to do this race if it was in Hungary. There was no announcement made up until May so I already gave up on it and planned my race schedule and then suddenly they announced a very strange race. The distance was going to be shorter than a 70.3 (1.9km / 1.2mi swim, 90km / 56mi bike and HM run, 21.1km / 13.1mi) which is normally...
2022 - a year with big plans
I'm not a patient person to be honest... and that is not great when you have way too many races on your bucket list. You just want to do them all, all now, not understanding that there will be a season in 2023, 2024 and even beyond... mind you, I already have races in my calendar for 2024 too!!! I find it really hard to stay focused and not throw too many unimportant bucket list races in the schedule. Right now I'm trying to take things out rather than add new ones but when I manage to prune it a little...
ITU Long Course World Championship - 5th place in Age Group
This was the race I have been training for for the last 2 years! It was cancelled last year but luckily it went ahead this year. Normally the Long Course Championship for ITU is a different distance than Ironman, I guess just to differentiate themselves somehow. But I prefer the Ironman distance which is what it was this year! Every now and then they choose a venue of an existing race for the championship and run it at the classic full distance of 3800m (2.4mi) swim, 180km (112mi) bike and marathon run of 42.2km (26.2mi). Hungarian friends, left to right:...
Shall I become an ultrarunner? Looking ahead: 2021 and beyond
This year presented me with an unexpected but very pleasant problem: I accidentally discovered that I'm a natural at ultrarunning. The problem is that I love triathlon, I love the balance of the three sports and I don't want to give up cycling and swimming, my dreams of podiuming the ITU Worlds and going to Kona. The good news is, as it turns out, I don't need to! After my first 24h ultra race, which was only a bucket list item for me that I had originally planned to just tick off and move on, I got thinking. I ran the...
