At this point for me it is all about the Dome. I will run my first ever 6-day event there between June 20-26 and I have high hopes for what I can do. I entered Alexander County because there are still a few things I would like to figure out for the Dome. My approach is that with 3 little kids who are only 6, 8 and 10, I can't really afford to take off for 6-day races (which means 10 days away) on a regular basis. So I'm trying to get the first one right and then be done and...

I got into the Solidarity Challenge for Team Canada because there were a few things I wanted to try for my upcoming 6-day ultra. The International Association of Ultramarathoners put together this challenge to keep ultrarunners motivated. You could run your 6 hour race anywhere, then submit the file to your country's association who verify the result and submit it to IAU. This year presented me with an unexpected but very pleasant problem: I accidentally discovered that I'm a natural at ultrarunning. The problem is that I love triathlon, I love the balance of the three sports and I don't want to give up cycling and swimming, my dreams of podiuming the ITU Worlds and going to Kona. The good news is, as it turns out, I don't need to! After my first 24h ultra race, which was only a bucket list item for me that I had originally planned to just tick off and move on, I got thinking. I ran the...

2020 was a strange year for most of us, not what we had planned for and very hard to navigate at times. I feel extremely lucky that I got the most out of the situation and I'm actually glad that the season went the way it did and not the way it was originally planned even though the reason why it went that way is horrible. Short recap: I participated in 4 races, won 3 of them, set records at two of them and won a World Championship medal in the 4th with Team Canada. I always try to look...

The easy and short answer is: because we are all so different and what works for one might not work for others. However, isn't it still strange that when you put in "how to run a 24h ultramarathon" or "best race strategy for 24h ultramarathon" nothing comes up except a few forum posts and a few tips here and there? No comprehensive strategy guide? If you google "best marathon race strategy" you will have pages and pages of tips, some advocating for negative splits, some for even splits, telling you to split it up into chunks, how to calculate the...
