This was one of my main races for the year, one that I had high hopes for. I only do 2-3 "A" races a year so a lot of preparation went into it. I also had very high aspirations about what I can achieve - although I knew that they were maybe somewhat unrealistic on a first try. I still gave it a good shot. It was pretty much an open secret in the running community what I was going for, but I made sure that only the Canadian record attempts were published in the media, I just didn't want...

This was the race I have been training for for the last 2 years! It was cancelled last year but luckily it went ahead this year. Normally the Long Course Championship for ITU is a different distance than Ironman, I guess just to differentiate themselves somehow. But I prefer the Ironman distance which is what it was this year! Every now and then they choose a venue of an existing race for the championship and run it at the classic full distance of 3800m (2.4mi) swim, 180km (112mi) bike and marathon run of 42.2km (26.2mi).  Hungarian friends, left to right:...

The backyard ultra format is unique and poses different challenges than other multi-day events and the problems that I had in this race would have been easily solvable in a less restrictive format like a 48h race. Here we had to run 4.16 miles / 6.71 kms every hour on the hour. After you finish your lap, the rest of the hour is yours to do whatever you want to but come the next hour, you need to be in the starting corral to go out on your next lap. Again and again. Until there is just one last person...

It is so strange how this race went so much better than the one last week, yet it made me freak out about a whole lot of different things regarding my upcoming 6-day. I needed a few days to start pulling myself together mentally and to believe it will be a different story come race day. The whole point of running the Broken Track again was to try new asthma medications since they didn't really work that well at the last race, Alexander County 24h. I was fine during the race, but I couldn't breathe for two days after. So...

I'm three weeks out from my first "A" race of the year, 6 Days In The Dome, a 6-day ultrarunning race. When we arrived to Florida from Canada in late April, I was pumped to see that there are a ton of races running here, ultras as well as little 5ks, 10ks, even triathlons. There is a 5k almost every day within an hour's drive! This is very different from Canada where I have to hunt down carefully the little training races when I need them, even in non-COVID times. And currently all races are cancelled and have been for...
