The last race of the year brought great success, my third national record of 2021 and an unexpectedly fast time. It was a memorable race. I learned so much from seeing all the world class athletes and how they race. Imagine a race where a sub-15-hour 100-mile finish time doesn't get you on the women's 100-mile podium! That's how bad ass this field was. A time that put me in 21st on the all-time list for the World... but 3 of those other 20 women happened to be at this race! Nick Coury broke the American 24-hour record in this race and...

This was one of my main races for the year, one that I had high hopes for. I only do 2-3 "A" races a year so a lot of preparation went into it. I also had very high aspirations about what I can achieve - although I knew that they were maybe somewhat unrealistic on a first try. I still gave it a good shot. It was pretty much an open secret in the running community what I was going for, but I made sure that only the Canadian record attempts were published in the media, I just didn't want...

At this point for me it is all about the Dome. I will run my first ever 6-day event there between June 20-26 and I have high hopes for what I can do. I entered Alexander County because there are still a few things I would like to figure out for the Dome. My approach is that with 3 little kids who are only 6, 8 and 10, I can't really afford to take off for 6-day races (which means 10 days away) on a regular basis. So I'm trying to get the first one right and then be done and...

This year presented me with an unexpected but very pleasant problem: I accidentally discovered that I'm a natural at ultrarunning. The problem is that I love triathlon, I love the balance of the three sports and I don't want to give up cycling and swimming, my dreams of podiuming the ITU Worlds and going to Kona. The good news is, as it turns out, I don't need to! After my first 24h ultra race, which was only a bucket list item for me that I had originally planned to just tick off and move on, I got thinking. I ran the...

The easy and short answer is: because we are all so different and what works for one might not work for others. However, isn't it still strange that when you put in "how to run a 24h ultramarathon" or "best race strategy for 24h ultramarathon" nothing comes up except a few forum posts and a few tips here and there? No comprehensive strategy guide? If you google "best marathon race strategy" you will have pages and pages of tips, some advocating for negative splits, some for even splits, telling you to split it up into chunks, how to calculate the...
